Rickets (osteomalacia) - Children

Rickets (soft bones) in children in Kuwait

Rickets, or osteomalacia in children, is a condition that affects bone strength and may cause pain, weakness, developmental delays, or changes in leg shape such as bowing or an unsteady gait. It is often associated with a deficiency in vitamin D or calcium, or with absorption problems, and requires medical follow-up along with an appropriate rehabilitation program to safely improve strength and mobility.

At Al Kindy Care, we offer natural therapy and home rehabilitation for children with rickets/osteomalacia in Kuwait with a safe and gradual plan that helps the child strengthen muscles, improve walking and balance, and reduce the risk of falling—in cooperation with the doctor’s plan.

When does a child need assessment and rehabilitation?

Delayed sitting/standing/walking

Rapid fatigue or general weakness

Leg pain or difficulty bearing weight

Bowlegs (inward or outward) or abnormal knee shape

Unsteady gait or frequent falls

The child avoids playing and moving due to pain or fatigue.

Important note: Rehabilitation does not replace treatment of the underlying medical cause (such as vitamin D/calcium), but it is very important for restoring strength and skills.

Goals of physiotherapy:

Why is home rehabilitation important?

Because the child needs:

  • A simple, repetitive daily activity inside the house
  • A comfortable environment reduces stress
  • A practical application of “walking around the house”: between rooms, in hallways, with toys,
and it also helps parents to know which activities are allowed and prohibited during the treatment phase.
