Brain oxygen deficiency in children

Home-based oxygen therapy for children with cerebral hypoxia in Kuwait

Hypoxic/anoxic brain injury occurs when the brain’s oxygen supply is reduced for a period of time. Depending on the severity and location of the injury, it can affect movement, muscle tone, balance, swallowing or speech, and attention. In some children, symptoms may resemble cerebral palsy (CP-like symptoms), such as muscle stiffness, poor coordination, or delayed motor skills.

At Al-Kindy Care, we offer physiotherapy and home rehabilitation for children with hypoxic brain injury in Kuwait with an individualized plan that focuses on improving daily functions, restoring skills, and reducing complications, along with practical training for parents.

When does a child need rehabilitation?

Significant delay in sitting/crawling/standing/walking

A decline in a skill he previously possessed

Severe stiffness or tightness in the limbs

Weakness or lack of normal use of a limb/side

Difficulty controlling the trunk (sits with difficulty/leans too much)

Muscle spasms or abnormal postures

Contact a doctor immediately/seek medical evaluation if: frequent vomiting/severe headache (if the child is older) or change in consciousness occurs

Goals of physiotherapy:

Why is home rehabilitation important?

  • It facilitates daily continuity
  • It makes training relevant to real life inside the home.
  • It reduces the child’s stress and increases their cooperation.
  • It helps parents understand the correct situations, when to intervene, and how.
