Tennis Elbow
What is Tennis Elbow?
Tennis elbow is an inflammation/strain of the tendons in the muscles responsible for raising the wrist and fingers, and it usually manifests as pain on the outside of the elbow.
It is not necessarily caused by tennis; it is often caused by:
- Frequent use of the hand (office work, tools, carrying)
- Wrong movements or sudden strain
- Muscle weakness in the forearm or shoulder causes excessive pressure on the tendon.
When do you need physical therapy for tennis elbow?
Pain when holding or squeezing things
Pain when lifting a cup or opening a door
Weakness in grip or dropping things from the hand
Pain increases with repetitive work or mouse use
Pain that persists for more than two weeks
The problem recurs after temporary improvement
Important note: If there is severe numbness, abnormally spreading pain, or obvious weakness in the hand—a medical evaluation is recommended to ensure there is no neurological cause or other problem.
Goals of physiotherapy:
- Exercises to relieve pain and gradually improve tendon endurance
