Scoliosis

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine, and it can be mild, moderate, or severe.
It may appear in children and adolescents during growth, or in adults due to changes in the spine over time.

Physical therapy does not always “completely correct” the curvature, but it greatly helps in:

  • Improving body posture
  • Reducing pain and muscle tension
  • Improve balance and strength
  • Improving the quality of daily movement

When do you need physical therapy for scoliosis?

Recurring pain in the back or neck

Muscle strain on one side more than the other

Shoulder/pelvic tilt or a noticeable difference in shoulder level

Rapid fatigue when sitting or standing

Weakness in the core muscles

Difficulty maintaining an upright posture for a period of time

Important note: If scoliosis is in a child/adolescent who is growing, or there is a rapid increase in curvature, or unusual severe pain—regular medical follow-up is recommended to assess the progression of the condition.

Goals of physiotherapy:

Why is home treatment beneficial?

Because most of the pressure on the back comes from the details of daily life inside the home:

The way you sit, the height of your chair, how you sleep, how you carry your baby or belongings, and how you use your phone. Inside the house, we notice incorrect postures and correct them immediately, and we help you apply the exercises in the same place where you live—this stabilizes the results and reduces the return of pain.
