Kyphosis

What is kyphosis?

Kyphosis is an increased curvature of the upper spine (thoracic vertebrae), and may be:

  • Postural issues due to incorrect sitting posture and muscle weakness
  • Or related to vertebral changes/osteoporosis in the elderly
  • Or it may appear in some adolescents during growth (depending on the assessment)

Physical therapy is very helpful, especially in postural cases, and relieves symptoms and improves movement even in age-related cases, provided there is commitment and safety.

When do you need natural treatment for kyphosis?

A noticeable curvature of the upper back or a forward tilt of the head

Pain between the shoulder blades or in the neck

Rapid fatigue when sitting or standing

Weakness in the back and shoulder muscles

Difficulty standing “upright” for a period of time

Stiffness in the upper back or chest

Important note: If you have sudden severe back pain, suspected vertebral fracture/compression (especially with osteoporosis), or unusual numbness/weakness—a medical evaluation is recommended before starting exercises.

Goals of physiotherapy

Why is home treatment beneficial?

Because hunchback is often linked to a daily routine inside the house:

sitting on a low sofa, using the phone for extended periods, sleeping position, and screen/desk height, inside the house we accurately identify these causes and modify them practically, and choose exercises that suit your tools and space, and this gives faster results and proves improvement.
