Trigeminal nerve

What is trigeminal neuralgia?

The fifth cranial nerve is responsible for sensation in the face and some chewing functions.

When a nerve is irritated or becomes overly sensitive, severe and intermittent pain may occur. The causes vary from person to person, so medical follow-up is essential to determine the appropriate treatment plan.

What does trigeminal neuralgia feel like?

Sudden episodes of severe pain in the cheek, jaw, or around the eye

The pain comes and goes quickly, and may recur several times a day.

Stimulating pain with chewing, talking, or touching the face

Extreme sensitivity in a specific “spot” of the face

Muscle tension in the jaw or neck due to fear of pain or stress

Important note: Any trigeminal neuralgia requires medical evaluation (Neurologist/specialist) to determine the primary treatment.
