Brain hemorrhage
What is a brain hemorrhage?
It is a collection of blood between the brain and the skull, preventing oxygen from reaching the brain. It is a serious, life-threatening condition that requires prompt treatment for the best outcome.
Rehabilitation after a brain hemorrhage is important because it leads to:
Weakness in one limb or half of the body
Balance disorder and risk of falling
Weakness in the ability to walk or stand
muscle stiffness or tightness
Decreased fitness due to lack of movement
Important note: Rehabilitation usually begins after the condition has stabilized and according to the instructions of the treating physician.
Goals of physiotherapy:
- Safe training to stand and transfer between bed and chair
- Balance and fall prevention exercises
- Walking training and gradually restoring gait pattern
- Strengthening weak muscles and improving stability
- Flexibility exercises to reduce stiffness and tightness
- A simple home exercise program for the days between sessions
Why is home treatment beneficial?
Because the patient needs training in their actual environment : the bathroom, the bed, the sofa, the hallways, and the stairs if there are any, inside the house we can train the patient on the same daily tasks and modify the environment to be safer (arranging the place, points of support, removing obstacles) which reduces falls and increases confidence in movement.
